Vacuum Pump Protection

Eliminate oil mist emissions, protect work environments, and extend pump life with high-efficiency exhaust filtration systems designed for oil-sealed rotary vane, piston, and screw vacuum pumps.

Vacuum pump exhaust filtration system with oil mist separator

The Challenge

Oil-sealed vacuum pumps are essential workhorses across manufacturing, laboratory, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries. However, their exhaust streams contain a fine mist of pump oil aerosol, process vapours, and particulates that present significant health, safety, and environmental concerns.

Without effective exhaust filtration, oil mist contaminates the working environment, coats surfaces and equipment, creates slip hazards, and contributes to poor indoor air quality. In pharmaceutical GMP environments, semiconductor cleanrooms, and food production areas, uncontrolled oil mist emissions are simply unacceptable.

Additionally, the continuous loss of pump oil through exhaust mist increases operating costs, shortens oil-change intervals, and can lead to premature pump failure if oil levels are not monitored closely enough.

Our Solution

R+F FilterElements offers a complete range of vacuum pump exhaust filters and oil mist eliminators that achieve 99.9% oil aerosol removal efficiency. Our aluminium and stainless steel housings are designed for direct mounting on pump exhausts, with models available for temperatures up to 200°C and flow rates from small laboratory pumps to large industrial installations.

Our coalescing-type exhaust elements capture fine oil mist, coalesce it into liquid form, and return the recovered oil to the pump via gravity drain — reducing oil consumption, extending service intervals, and eliminating visible exhaust emissions.

99.9% Oil Mist Removal

High-efficiency glass-fibre coalescing media captures oil aerosols down to sub-micron sizes, delivering virtually oil-free exhaust air.

Oil Recovery & Recycling

Coalesced oil drains back to the pump by gravity, significantly reducing oil consumption and extending oil-change intervals.

Temperature Resistant

Stainless steel housing options rated to 200°C for high-temperature vacuum processes and thermal treatment applications.

Universal Pump Compatibility

Direct-fit replacement elements compatible with all major vacuum pump brands — no adapter modifications required.

Cleanroom & GMP Ready

Validated exhaust filtration performance for pharmaceutical GMP environments and semiconductor cleanroom applications.

Low Back-Pressure

Optimised element geometry minimises exhaust restriction, maintaining pump displacement and ultimate vacuum performance.

Vacuum Pump Exhaust Filtration Setup

A properly configured vacuum pump exhaust filtration system captures oil mist at source, recovers pump oil, and ensures clean exhaust air.

  1. 1

Exhaust connection: Filter housing mounts directly on the pump exhaust port using standard threaded or flange connections.

  2. 2

Oil mist coalescing: The RF-CS coalescing element captures fine oil aerosol from the exhaust gas stream, achieving 99.9% removal efficiency.

  3. 3

Oil return: Coalesced liquid oil drains by gravity from the filter housing back to the pump oil reservoir through the integrated drain connection.

  4. 4

Clean exhaust: Filtered exhaust air is vented safely to atmosphere or into the facility ventilation system, free from visible oil mist.

  5. 5

Element monitoring: Differential pressure or visual indicators signal when element replacement is required, typically every 2,000–4,000 operating hours.
