Analytical Instrumentation
Precision inline filtration and sample conditioning for gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, CEMS, and emissions analysers \u2014 ensuring accurate, repeatable measurements at trace-level concentrations.

The Challenge
Analytical instruments demand the cleanest possible sample gas to deliver accurate, reliable measurements. Even minute quantities of particulate, liquid aerosol, or reactive contaminants can block capillary columns, poison detectors, corrode wetted surfaces, and introduce measurement artefacts that compromise data integrity.
In emissions monitoring (CEMS), environmental sampling, and process gas analysis, the sample stream often travels through long runs of tubing from harsh process conditions to the analyser shelter. Along this path, temperature changes cause condensation, corrosion products form, and particles are generated — all of which must be removed before the sample reaches the instrument.
For trace-level analysis of reactive compounds such as sulphur species (H₂S, SO₂, mercaptans) and mercury vapour, even the filter housing itself can adsorb or react with the target analyte, causing low readings and slow response times. Specialised inert coatings are essential to maintain measurement accuracy.
Our Solution
R+F FilterElements provides a comprehensive range of precision inline filters, fast-loop sample systems, and sample conditioning components designed specifically for analytical instrumentation. Our compact stainless steel and PEEK housings are available with SilcoNert® and Sulfinert® inert coatings for trace-level sulphur and mercury analysis.
From simple point-of-use particulate protection to complete multi-stage sample conditioning systems with heatable housings, membrane separators, and coalescing pre-filters, we offer every filtration component needed to deliver a clean, representative sample to your analyser.
SilcoNert® Inert Coatings
Optional SilcoNert®-coated wetted surfaces prevent adsorption of reactive sulphur species and mercury, ensuring accurate trace-level analysis.
Zero Dead Volume
Compact inline filter designs minimise internal volume to maintain fast analyser response times and prevent sample lag.
Heatable Housings
Electrically heated filter housings prevent sample condensation in CEMS and process gas applications where dew-point management is critical.
PEEK & Polymer Options
Chemically inert PEEK and PFA housings for corrosive sample streams and applications requiring non-metallic wetted parts.
Fast-Loop Integration
Designed for integration into fast-loop sample conditioning systems with standard Swagelok®-type tube fittings.
Multi-Phase Separation
Membrane gas/liquid separators remove condensate from sample streams without chemical drying agents, maintaining sample integrity.
Typical Analyser Sample Conditioning System
A sample conditioning system extracts a representative gas sample from the process, conditions it to analyser-ready quality, and delivers it at the correct flow, pressure, and temperature.
- 1
Sample probe extraction: A heated probe extracts gas from the process duct or pipe, preventing condensation at the sample point.
- 2
Primary filtration: A coalescing pre-filter (RF-H-110/120 series) removes bulk liquid and particulate from the raw sample stream.
- 3
Sample transport: Heated sample lines maintain the sample above its dew point during transport to the analyser shelter.
- 4
Membrane separation: RF-M-GMS membrane separators remove remaining moisture without chemical dryers, delivering a dry gas sample.
- 5
Final polishing: Compact inline filters (RF-HFL fast-loop or RF-HIL inline series) provide final ≤ 2 µm particulate protection directly at the analyser inlet.
- 6
Flow control and bypass: Excess sample is returned to process via a bypass loop, ensuring fresh sample is always available at the analyser.
